Our expertise

Our fields of study are gathered around two main themes: tribology and biomechanics.

Tribology

The TGV must not exceed 17 tons per axle, which corresponds to 2 Asian elephants on a coin...

Tribology is the science of lubrication, friction, and wear. It studies problems related to both dry and lubricated contact. CISTEN offers services in the field of experimental and numerical tribology. Our areas of expertise include the investigation of friction and wear phenomena within complex mechanical systems, under various operational conditions, ranging from normal to extreme, and across different scales.

Biomechanics

According to the WHO, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for around 18 million deaths every year.

CISTEN’s biomechanics activities focus on the fields of orthopedics and vascular surgery. CISTEN is involved in the research and development of new medical technologies, working in collaboration with healthcare professionals to improve orthopedic treatments and vascular surgical procedures.

Orthopedic surgery
Orthopedic surgery
The skeleton is a mechanical entity in itself, and its movements can be a subject of various research and development areas. In order to comprehend and prevent dysfunctions or pathologies, or to aid healthcare professionals in the orthopedic field, the creation of specialized mechanobiologically realistic numerical models is a crucial tool for keeping up with technological advancements in this domain.
Vascular surgery
Vascular surgery
We offer the development of numerical tools with the aim of enhancing and simplifying diagnoses and clinical procedures. For instance, we create specific models for vascular surgery to assist in surgical planning.
